This last year of robotics has come and gone rather quickly. After the St. Louis regional competition we attended an unofficial competition in Kansas City and have begun work to prepare for the upcoming kickoff for the new game this year, FIRST Stronghold.
We have met regularly at the shop over the summer, fall, and winter to touch up last year’s robot, clean and organize the shop, and discuss our plans for next year. Additionally, we have begun design work for several different gearboxes to reduce time spent working on them in the early part of this upcoming season. In compliance with FRC regulations regarding design work done prior to kickoff, we have made this work publicly available here.
Among the many changes to our shop this offseason, we have expanded our welding area to accommodate two welding stations (one for MIG and one for TIG).
Additionally, we have built a new table for our programming and electrical departments, tidied up our electrical area, sorted our drill bits, and begun organizing our wrenches, sockets, and other tools. Throughout the course of this process, we have developed a color-coded system of organization for our various tools and drill bits that will greatly reduce the amount of time we spend looking for different sizes of tools throughout the build season. Take a look at our organization system here.
We are all looking forward to the kickoff next week to see what this new season has in store for us. If you or someone you know has any questions, is interested in joining our team or getting involved in robotics in any way, please feel free to contact us.
